Zan, Thanks for getting the new back up. Hope it will stay free of the scum that screwed it up before.. I must be one of your oldest corresponents (3 tours from 1950 to 1959). Was able to make it to the 2000 reunion and made some old and many new friends. I was the first 203 at Chix, beginning operations in Jan 1951 with one position (me). I had a typewriter and an SP600 rcvr, no recorder. If you missed anything the first time, there was no go around. Those were the days. My partner was Don Kubeck, who was also a 203 but Polish, but he soon learned enough Russian to do the job. My boss was Max Hawkes, who was the Control NCOIC. We used to go to lunch everyday, and we flipped a coin to see who paid for lunch. It always was me. When I went back to Chix in 2000, I didn't recognize anything because of all the changes that had been made since 1959, the last time I had been there. I could go all day, but my recall isn't what it once was. |

FTVA NATIONAL CAPITAL AREA CHAPTER AND CHICKSANDS ALUMNI REGIONAL MINI-REUNION
The Freedom Through Vigilance Assn (FTVA)is the national association of former members of USAFSS/ESC/AIA/etc. The FTVA National Capital Area Chapter together with Chicksands Alumni in the mid-Atlantic area are hosting a dinner meeting on the evening of 22 February 2008.
The location is the 94th Aero Squadron, a World War One-themed restaurant featuring early aviation artifacts and great food - a perfect venue for a gathering of USAF veterans. The restaurant, in College Park, Maryland, is adjacent to the runway of the Nation's oldest continuously-operating airport and is not subject to base security ID checks.
There will be a three-course dinner with salad, choice of steak or broiled salmon entree, veg medley/herb-roasted potatoes, hot rolls, coffee/tea/iced tea, including red or white wine and dessert. The $36.00 per person full cost covers tax and gratuity.
Our distinguished after-dinner speaker will be Major General Paul Dettmer, USAF Assistant DCS/Intelligence. All former members of USAFSS/ESC/AIA/and subsequent descendant organizations are invited to renew old ties.
Attendance is limited so don't wait to sign-up. Send an email to jileach@aol.com asking to be placed on the reservation list. Be sure to specify number of persons attending, choice of steak or salmon for each person, and a phone number where you can be contacted. Watch for additional details sent to your email address or at this site. |

Was at the Sands from 1974-76 on Able Flight. Bopped a few dits and dahs during those years. Was at the 6910th 1973-1974 in Augsburg when it closed down and the mission moved to Chicksands. Those were some great times and great memories. Mike and Connie Brouillette, Steve Caldwell, Dave Teman, Brad and Judy Solem, Charlie and Charlotte Bates, Larry Denston, Patty O'day, Frank Montoya, Roger Pfab, Mike (Ceasar) Chapman, Mike McGee, Tom Hart, Kerry and Dana Laughlin and a bunch of others made those days go by much too quickly! Merry Christmas to all of you and a Happy New Year! |

I was at Chicksands from 1966-1968. I don't really remember what flight I was on but I think that it was Able Flight. I was a 292 and went to Ramasun Station, Udorn, Thailand after my time at Chicks. Would like to hear from other guys who served at Chicks around the same time. I also keep in touch with other USAFSS members on the USAFSS Roll Call site. |

Hi everyone,
I was the deputy staff judge advocate in the 7274 Air Base Group legal office from June 1987 to February 1990, working first for staff judge advocate Major Ted Fink and then Major Rocky LaMuro, and serving a great group of people around the base. I left active duty in 1997, tranferring to the reserves, from which I then retired in 2005 as a Lt Col. I live in Florida now, where I practice law and also serve as an adjunct law professor for two universities. If anyone who remembers me wishes to say "hello" you can reach me via email at lawcory@gte.net or by phone (813) 662-0760. Best wishes, David Cory |

Just wanted to say HEY. Glad to see this site is back in business. I ran the base safety program at Chix, 1978-1981. Got up to the hill about once a week, so some of you might remember me, but most probably don't. Went to SAC HQ after leaving the Chix, and retired in Jan, 1985. |

well, well ! glad to see this site back up, I had stopped checking on it until I ran across an email on another site. Had been using Video Ranch until it crashed and am not sure it will be back up. To protect myself, I can't help but mention that I am only one of the David Moores stationed at the sands. Seems like there were one or two others, one of which was not well liked by some folks on this site. I was stationed there 1957 to 1960 and was a very tame and inoffensive young ditty bopper who never got higher than Airman Second while there. Now I'm a tame and inoffensive old fart!...cheers and thanks Zan. |
