Dave Peter davidhp@cox.net Tue Dec 9 19:32:02 2008 I was stationed at Chix from Dec 79 - Nov 82, as a 202, at the time I was a SSgt. I was assigned to JOCC orginally for about 7 months, then I moved to Able Flt (Bob Molstead and later Don Whye were the S&W's at the time) in the S&W Center for a little over a year, and then to the Day Shop (I worked for BC Crabtree and Vance Stepherson there) until I left for HQS ESC.
Bill Ricks comm 60-63 rixretreat3L@aol.com Sun Nov 30 20:29:41 2008 Have just talked with the Ole Ball Coach of the early 60's Chix baseball & basketball teams, Tony Trovato....turned 80 today...still alert and reflects good memory, however, doubts he could fit into his MG Midget any longer...he's not on email but I have phone # if interested... 45 years ago and it seemed just like dialing the gym and he answered !! GO CHIX
David A. Minnery minnery@sbcglobal.net Mon Nov 24 19:53:58 2008 I see that there is a group of vets from Chicksands that have reunions occasionally. I was stationed there from 1966-1968. Is there any group or organization that tries to get other Chicks vets together? The guys I served with at Ramasun Station, Udorn have been meeting for over 5 years. It seems that a big station like Chicksands would also have plenty of vets that would like to get together and talk about old times.
Bill Bryant w048@centurytel.net Wed Nov 19 10:09:00 2008 Please change my e-mail address on the Alumni roll to w048@centurytel.net. That's a small "w" and a zero...not a capital "O." The 10th annual Chicksands reunion for those there 1950-60, was held at Myrtle Beach SC, Nov. 11-14, 2008. Next year, Oct. 20-23, we'll convene in Montgomery, AL. If you were at the Sands during the 1950-60 decade and wish reunion information, e-mail me and I'll put you on the contact list. We change reunion locations each year and have a teriffic time telling tales that began so long ago they're now mythological...but still heartwarming to hear. Thanks, Zan, for getting the site back up and operating. You're a good man, Charlie Brown.

Don Kalil donaldkalil at aol dot com Thu Oct 16 08:20:42 2008 Mike---I was an X1 and an Able Flight "Animal" from 74-76. We may have relieved one another over those years and we certainly would have bumped into each other at some point. There was a gal there on your flight who sat the same rack as I did. Her name was Elaine---can't remember her last name, though. I played on the Chix soccer team, but mostly played on the foosball table at the club. Congrats on the retirement.
Mike Huskins mmachusk1@bellsouth.net Wed Oct 15 16:03:17 2008 Was stationed at the "Sands" from 1974-1976. I was an "X1" on Baker Flight (Baker Boozers) and played football for the "Fighting Chicks". Barry Jablon bjablon@comcast.net Mon Oct 6 15:40:22 2008 Over the years, I've seen one notice after another dealing with a proposed Chix reunion. Most of the time, because of my work schedule, I was not able to get there. Any of the old Chix who served from 1962 to 1966 who would just like to get together, informally, who live in the Southeast part of the U.S., let me know.

Milt Brocksieck mjbrocksieck@comcast.net Tue Sep 30 22:58:48 2008 Would like to reconnect with some of the characters from the 65-68 era including Charlie Brown, Sgt Allen, Tom Richards, Jim Mayer. etc. Went by the old base several years ago and was surprised by the armed guards. Miss the old elephant cage but I'm sure the locals were glad to see it go.
Bob Brown rcbrown103@yahoo.com Tue Sep 30 18:08:44 2008 In July of 1952 I arrived at Chicksands along with another ten or twelve recent graduates of the R6-6 class from the Army Language School, Monterey, California. At the time we started to work in Dog Block the voice section was made up of Capt Spolarich OIC, NCOIC Ken Crawford, a couple SSgts Kubeck and Ambrose ???, a guy called Tank and one other A/1st Class. Sometime later that year the Russian program at the Univ of Syracuse graduated a class and the Dog Block population grew by another eight to ten people. The fifties were a wonderful time to be in the UK, even on an enlisted man`s pay. A pint in the Rose on the High Street set you back one and six, one way ticket to London on the train was ten bob, a stall seat in the West End was a pound, a guinea if you bought it from a booking agent. London was a magnet. During the two and half years I was there the American Embasy was located on Grovesnor Square and there was a GI hotel on a nearby street. Price of a bed, two bucks a night. Dinner in the dining room of the embasy was affordable and elegant. Admission to the Tate, The British Museum, The Royal Gallery not much more than a shilling. A cup of tea, six pence and you could tube across town for one and six. Things remembered: rotating shifts, hated it. I was in London the weekend of the Great Fog which brought about the Clean Air Act. Never forget it. The darkness of Sandy Lane as the last bus from London made its way to Bedford. The beauty of the English countryside and the friendly English people. It would be a treat to hear from some of the Dog Block guys or anyone who was there in the Fifties.
Bill Chapman bcsat@aol.c0m Tue Sep 30 12:08:06 2008 Didn't realize this site was open again --- gave up checking about a year ago. Don't know who is responsible but am happy to see it up. Judy Picciuolo-Dane ajdane57@yahoo.com Sun Sep 21 18:12:06 2008 I originally posted on this site in 2000. My father, MSGT Jules V. Picciuolo (TSGT when at Chicksands) was stationed at Chicks from 1966-1968? I am a loyal Airforce Brat. Memories of Chicksands and surrounding area including Chicksands Elementary School are priceless. My father died Feb. 28,2002. And I am just getting up the dander to renew my research on what he did and what all of you great people did at Chicksands. Am I allowed to ask that? Did you know my father? What was he like to work with...what did he do? What did you do? I am also looking for Miss Pouthier, my 5th/6th grade teacher on base. Any info and conversation is welcome. Pat Tebbs-Gates pattebbsgates1@satx.rr.com Tue May 27 16:57:46 2008 The Priory had a clock over the entrance to the courtyard at one time. Does anyone have a picture that dates back showing the clock? It was there back in the late 60's - early 70's when my dad was stationed at Chicksands.
Dick Bieser dbieser@woh.rr.com Thu May 15 13:02:20 2008 Tale of get-together. Gerry Markle and our wives met in Dayton, OH 5/14 for a great dinner and a few stories. Gerry and I part of original group when Sands was set up. AACS boys from Germany came over to set up antennas. We were there 1951 to '53. Actually I left on detachment to Scotland (RAF Edzell) after one year at Sands. Have made contact with George Montague and Ed Hessler but hopefully find a few more "old timers" who are still breathing. Gerry and I had not seen each other in 50 some years and it was a ball.Any more from our era?

Bill Grayson chicksands@earthlink.net Thu Apr 24 08:05:22 2008 Death of Carl Clair Regret to advise of the death April 18 of Lt Col Carl F. Clair at age 72. Carl was Ops Officer of the 6950th in the mid-1970s. He and I were classmates at the 2nd Goodfellow course for SIGINT officers, worked together at Chicksands, and were neighbors in Fort Meade housing when we both came back to NSA. Following Carl's USAF retirement, he worked at NSA till his full retirement after 39 years of federal service.
Eric Huesman ehuesman@comcast.net Tue Apr 22 17:49:28 2008 Hello everyone! I was reminiscing about my tour at RAF Chicksands the other day and started doing a little internet searching on the old place. One link led to another and I found myself at this wonderful place. I served as an SP there from April 1994 until September 1995. Not only was I one of the "Final 99" (I have my coin to prove it!) but three other SP's and myself were the last four American military personnel there. We literally locked the gates when we left! I remember some names and many faces and would love to hear from anyone else that may have served with me.

Al Katner Katner2@cox.net Sat Apr 12 13:49:05 2008 Does anyone remember the orphaniges we used to sponser? We would bring a bunch of kids go the base and give them a great day at Christmas time. I got involved the first year I was at Chicks and more or less ran it for 3 years. I think the most fun was buying the toys for the kids. We started out with about 7 homes and in the end I think we had about 25. One of the most satisying things I have ever don in my life. AND Lt Col Marin was fully behind me.

Tim McGee tmcgee85@yahoo.com Tue Apr 8 19:09:04 2008 I was stationed at RAF Chicksands from December 1988 thru December 1991. Looking for anyone on Baker Flight during that time.
Al Katner Katner2@cox.net Tue Apr 8 18:42:12 2008 Was stationed at Chicks from 66 to 69. My first son was borned there and do I ever remember that trip from Sandy to the base and then to South (sp) Rislup. Worked in the Day shop my whole tour as I had a rep for plans. Had gone to a 242xx school while I was at Goodbuddy. Lt Col Laddie Marin was the OIC of ops and later when he got his Eagle was Base Cmdr for a while. One of the best officers I ever served under. (Now deceased.) I will never forget the only time that I was late for work in 3 years there Col Marin was at the top gate checking people.....He asked why I was late and I told him I had a flat tire on the way in, he said be in my office at 8:30. I was, and he let me know never to try to tell him a story again. Needless to say I had no trouble going to the bathroom for several days after that because he reamed me a new one. (And that man could do it, and make you feel good about yourself when he was through.) I could run on with more stories but guess I have rambled enough. If anyone wants to holler I'm at Katner2@cox.net.
Matt Kohn matthewkohn@alltel.net Fri Apr 4 15:19:21 2008 This is an appeal to anyone who may have any photographs of Diane Horvath (Baker Flight 77-80). Thanks in advance.
Barry Jablon bjablon@comcast.net Wed Apr 2 11:22:44 2008 Do any of the old Chix guys remember a guy named Pete Liscoe? He was at the Sands between '62 and '66. We were pretty friendly and then, if I recall correctly, he got two fast promotions and left in a real hurry. I wonder what ever happened to him.
Darryl Kramer Zooey1023@yahoo.com Sun Mar 23 01:15:56 2008 Stationed at RAF Chicksands from 1991-1993. Charlie Flight. Favorite memory - marrying and being with Stephanie. A beautiful time. Things I wish to forget - shift work. Ugh. I'm now living and working in DC, but will always have fond memories of my time there. Time well spent with friends.

LORN HINISH lhinish@aol.com Sun Jan 27 11:24:42 2008 Never saw this site before and so glad that I came across it. I heard from Ed Hessler about this and looked in on it. I was one of the first people ther. Was on the crew from the 2nd (darmstadt) to do the site survey with Chief Warrent Officer Hawks and others. Then went back to darmstadt and then was transferred to Chicksands to heop set it up. We put us the first Di-Pole antenna to get started and then built bigger antennaes later. Those wer fun day. I was trying to remember the SSGT that assisted. He was the crazy one but man could he take the old dittybops. We talked alot about the chicksands ghost who roamed down by the bridge. Max Hawkes was later at the NSA where I went to work in 1955 when got out of the service on Friday and went back on Monday then went to the CIVOP progam at Herzo. OH man did I enjoy chicksands, and the trips to London with Joe Tomes. We had a ball at a special club in London , the Murzuka club on the West End. Do not know how many people knew that club but Joe and I had good times there. So I wish all those who was at chicksands good health and prosperty. LORN

Wayne Beebe madcowhd@yahoo.com Sun Jan 20 17:48:55 2008 Hey all........thinking back to the mid-1970s - I am trying to locate a long lost British friend from my days at the Sands. Her name - Gina McElhone. Gina dated George Cartagena and then Gary Hartle. She was very good friends with Duke Hayden and Big Rosie. She married Wayne Beebe in Sep of 1978 and they left together that Dec - Wayne PCSing to San Antonio. Gina & Wayne divorced in 1981, and Gina stayed in the San Antonio area. Thru various searches, I found out that Gina remarried in 1992 to a Ronald Stephen Cantu in San Antonio but I can't find anything after that. Reason for trying to find Gina -- I've been in contact with Gina's sister, Maureen, and Maureen's son, Dean - both of whom have lost contact with Gina over the years and who are now trying to locate Gina on a family matter (which I cannot discuss). If anyone can provide any info relating to Gina's whereabouts please contact me at: madcowhd@yahoo.com Thanks to all for reading this and for anyone who can help. King B -- Fighting Chicks 74-78.
